The Midland Trail they had been traveling between Grand Junction and Price was a disaster, an endless series of washes, but their luck changed and they found good roads from Price to Salt Lake.

Good fortune also followed them in the desert west of Salt Lake.  They became lost after the road they had travelled for 80 miles eventually diminished to a sandy wasteland.  Out of water, they were saved by a friendly prospector who had amongst his gear,..a tank wagon filled with water.  His advice put them back on the trail to Reno, Nevada.

With Anita King in Hollywood

From Reno they journeyed through Sacramento, to San Francisco, and eventually to Los Angeles & San Diego, the original quest of their trip. It was September 8th, and they are pictured in this shot with Anita King, a silent film Hollywood star called the 'Paramount Girl'. Anita was  a pioneer too. She had driven a 4 wheel vehicle across difficult terrain from California to New York the previous year.

At the Mexican Border

Although they had accomplished the intended scope of their journey, they opted to continue down the coast from San Diego to Tijuana, Mexico.  They are picture in this photo on the border at the Terminus Cafe.
