They headed west thru Buffalo, Chicago, and on to Omaha. From Nebraska they made their way to Denver. They couldn't resist the excitement of summiting Pike's Peak. At 14,109 feet, it's a climb which even on today's heavy, powerful bikes is a major thrill.

Heading into the Hills

Dirt roads were the norm in 1916 once you were out of the city limits.

The Pikes Peak Auto Road today. Notice the awesome switchbacks in the distance.
These are near the summit at about 12,000 feet. The road today is wide enough for two
cars abreast, with no guardrails. Back in 1916 it was much narrower. The Sisters
did this ride only a few weeks after the original road was first opened.

At Seven Falls Colorado

Just south of Denver lies the beautiful town of Colorado Springs. A short ride into the hills brings you to magestic South Cheyenne Canyon wherein the Seven Falls are found.  Three of the seven cascades are shown above, a spot which is still popular today for visitors to the region.
